If you haven't visited our website lately, then you didn't see the latest addition to our experiences - We've added Closet Organizing!! Sara Darst is our newest stylist (we call her Sara D. since we have another Sarah, who you most likely know already) and when she told me she loves organizing closets, I thought she was just as nuts as Sarah when she said she liked vacation packing. After much thought, I said, "Why not? Our clients already do Closet Analysis and Cleanout's with us, this is taking it a step further!"

Building a relationship with our clients so we can better serve them is one of our priorities. It's also a priority of ours to ensure that they feel good with their wardrobe and themselves, and having an organized closet definitely falls into this category!
You've probably seen or have heard me say, "Fashion is self-care". Or you may have heard me talk about fashion psychology. It 100% affects our mental health. So there has to be a self-care element to having an organized closet, right? Absolutely!
The Benefits
How many times have you walked into your closet and got so overwhelmed whether it was trying to style an outfit, not knowing even where to start in order to style that outfit, or just the sight of clutter gave you anxiety? I'm a personal stylist and I have even gotten overwhelmed by MY closet. I believe everyone has this feeling at some point in their life.
Reduces Stress and Anxiety
Well, if you haven't guessed it - Having an organized closet reduces stress and anxiety! By having a clean closet, you know where things are. You see everything out in the open. You know what you own. Kind of random, but not (??)....it's similar to feng shui and your desk - if you have less stuff on your desk, you're not as stressed, you're more productive, the list goes on and on.

You won't over-buy
Piggybacking off of something I said in the last paragraph, you know what you own = you won't over-buy! I know that you know that you have definitely bought something at some point in time that was similar to something already in your closet, only causing you to spend the time going back to the store and returning it. Or worse, you kept it because you didn't have the time to go back to the store to do a return. I'll just leave it at that 😉
Boost Your Creativity
When you know what you own, it can boost your creativity when creating an outfit for the day. Seeing everything upfront can really push you to grab a different color that maybe you haven't worn in awhile or haven't tried. It may push you to try the fashion jacket you bought to try something new. The possibilities are endless when you can see everything out in the open!
Saves You Time
Next, it saves you so much time. Think about it - it's cold out so you need to wear a long sleeve shirt or a sweater. You can easily grab it. If you're mood dresser, you may want to wear something colorful and bright. Again, you can easily grab it.
Saves You Space
Lastly, by having an organized closet, it will not only look aesthetically pleasing and clean, but you can save space! Sure, you may call us because your closet needs to be cleaned up. However, it could also be because you aren't using your space right and you know it, everything is basically falling out of the closet!
How to Organize a Closet
An organized closet is beneficial like we just discussed, but it all comes down to: HOW TO organize a closet. After Sara D. works with a Closet Organizing client, she sends out a guide on how to continue organizing your closet. As you can probably imagine, things can easily become UNorganized after we leave.
With that said, here are 3 of our top tips out of many:
Organize by Category
First things first, you want to organize your wardrobe into categories. Ex: Fashion jackets and blazers together, sweaters together, t-shirts together, pants and denim together, etc. etc.
Organize by Length
Next, you want to take each category and organize them by length. Ex: left to right (or maybe you do right to left🤷🏽); short sleeve, 3/4 sleeves, long sleeves. Then for bottoms, shorts to pants. So on and so on.
Organize by Color
Lastly, within each category, and now, within each length you want to organize by color. Within the fashion industry, all of us fashionistas work off of the Color Wheel. You can reference it below:

Extra Closet Organizing Tips
The one other thing you want to think about is utilizing boxes! It not only makes everything look clean, but it also allows stacking = space saver!
Labels are also a great way to stay organized once the initial organization is done. As I mentioned before, it's easy to fall back to an unorganized closet.
Lastly, and this is even something I personally need to do (and I'm sure it's irritating Sara D. because she organized my closet), have all your hangers match. This a minor detail, but to have everything be cohesive is not only aesthetically pleasing, but actually having it be aesthetically pleasing is a stress reducer.
That's it my friends! I hope you enjoyed this blog post, but more importantly, found it helpful! If you would like to book Sara D. for a Closet Organizing experience, reach out via our contact box on our website: MHstyleconsultants.com
